The town of Blackpool was instrumental in Mike’s upbringing, with him and his family spending at least one week every year on holiday there, as well as the odd day trip during the summer. The true fascination, of course, were the historic tram-cars which ran up and down the seafront. One thing that Mike is incredibly proud of is that he made the aforementioned little boy very happy when, in 2016, he passed his tram driving test and started volunteering for Blackpool Heritage Tram tours, driving the trams he loved so much up and down the promenade.
If you go back a few years to when Mike was a little boy and ask the question all parents ask; “What do you want to be when you grow up?” - then the answer would come back without any hesitation - “A Blackpool Tram Driver”.

When we first got back from Sydney, one of the first places we went to was Blackpool, and not only to see Mike’s sister who lives near there with her husband Pete. Catherine had never seen the place and Mike was keen to share the town he loved with his beloved.
Further trips followed, both to see family who live nearby, and to introduce Catherine to the “illuminations” - something which she had wanted to see for a long time. Having been told as a child that, by leaving a couple of lights on in the house it was “Lit up like Blackpool Illuminations”, She was keen to see what all the fuss was about!
We still take regular trips to this Northern seaside town and, providing they are in season, always take an evening to go and see the illuminations.
Oh, and the trams of course!
