The music at our wedding was specially selected by the bride and groom - even the "incidental" music - and quite a few people have asked about it after the event. So, we thought we would make the play lists public and share a bit of an insight into what people were listening to!
The music which the Bridesmaids and Bride walked down the aisle are actually two pieces which were composed by a great friend of ours, Ric Mills.
Ric and Mike have been friends since they were at university together and, despite Ric moving to Australia a few years ago, have stayed in touch through social media.
When Mike and Catherine disembarked the ship in Sydney, we met up with Ric and had a fantastic day exploring the city together. We were both incredibly sad that he could not join us for our big day, but unfortunately life gets in the way sometimes.....

Ric is a phenomenal organist, pianist, musician, composer and friend. As well as running the fantastic "Octave 8 music academy" in Sydney, he is an accomplished composer and arranger having released several albums as well as writing scores for various films. We were absolutely honoured that he allowed us to use two of his wonderful compositions for Catherine to walk down the aisle to. Even though he was unable to attend the wedding, it was a wonderful touch to add part of him to share our special day.
Something to set the theme for the entire day was needed for our walking out music - "Let there be love" by Nat King Cole and George Shearing provided just what we wanted - a classic song to set us up for what our married life will be all about.

A few of the more observant guests spotted that, whilst the background music before the ceremony and during the photos sounded like a traditional string quartet, the songs they were playing definitely were not traditionally heard at a wedding! Performed by the Vitamin String Quartet, the Midnite String Quartet (who provide some of the music for "Bridgerton") and the "Disney String Quartet", they were the string versions of some of our favourite songs.
The link to the left should take you to the playlist if you are one of those people thinking "Was that really "Still alive" from Portal played on a violin?!?
For our first dance we wanted something which felt very personal to us.
We have both been through a lot - good times and bad - and have a little annoyed "niggle" in the back of our heads that we really should have got together sooner than we did.
Still things happen for a reason and we got together at the perfect time for both of us.

The reception music was, again, representative of us. There was heavy rock, classic pop as well as some cheesy classics and a few surprises!
For months Catherine has been telling people that she will be walking down the aisle to "Diggy Diggy Hole" by "Windrose", so that had to go in. When we were visiting family in the Netherlands, we went to an amazing Konigsnacht (Kings Night) event where some rather catchy Dutch dance tracks were played, so they had to go in.
Oh, and some Gary Numan for Mike. Obviously.....
