We often visit friends who live in Leicester and that journey takes us past the signs for Warwick Castle. Every time when we passed that sign Catherine would always comment "I'd really like to visit Warwick Castle sometime".
"Sometime" came on October 28th 2023 when a weekend of "Lies and Subterfuge" (as it was known!) was planned.
Firstly Mike arranged a fake "Halloween party" at the home of our friends in Leicester and persuaded Catherine that we should go.
Then we got "slightly lost" en route and ended up turning into Warwick Castle, the excuse given was that it was an early birthday present!
Slightly lost again, we went to explore the Peacock Gardens where our friends had already setup a picnic blanket in a secluded corner surrounded by love-hearts, fairy lights and a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate.
After completely forgetting what he'd planned to say at first, Mike finally popped the question and was overjoyed when Catherine said yes!
After a wonderful day out at Warwick Castle, we headed off to stay the night at our friends in Leicester only to divert via Coombe Abbey, a 12th Century monastary now converted into a hotel, just for "A look around and maybe a celebratory dinner"
When Mike then walked up to the reception desk and asked to check-in, Catherine was overheard to say "He lies!", but was also delighted with the rather nice room and dinner that had been booked!
The day was magical and a wonderful start to a very happy engagement. Let's hope the big day goes as well as planned!
