London is one of those places that always feels like an adventure. Our visits have usually started with something work-related – Mike used to work for Colas, whose head office is in Wimbledon, and more than one trip to the capital has been thanks to a staff Christmas party.
But we always found a way to turn those work trips into something a bit more special.
Staying on an extra day meant we could see the sights together – from the historic grandeur of the Tower of London to the bright lights and music of a Blue Man Group show.
London has a way of throwing history and entertainment together in the most unlikely combinations, and we’ve loved being part of that mix, even just for a weekend at a time.
Of course, no trip to London would be complete without tackling its transport. Between navigating the Underground, squeezing onto busy trains, and marvelling at the endless stream of buses, it sometimes felt like half the fun (and half the stress!) was just getting from A to B.
At least it gave Mike a chance to spot a few trains, and Catherine the chance to make sure we didn’t end up halfway to Croydon by mistake!
Whether it’s wandering along the Thames, catching a glimpse of the skyline at night, or just enjoying the simple thrill of being in the hustle and bustle, our London trips have always felt like little adventures. They may have started as work outings,
but they’ve given us some brilliant memories together – and, let’s be honest, probably a few sore heads the next morning too.
