The “Melbourne Moment” gets talked about often in our house.
Mike was working for Princess Cruises, based around Australia / New Zealand when he finally plucked up the courage to tell one of his oldest friends how he truly felt about her.
Catherine, who had been planning a trip to Australia to see family at Christmas, 2023, brought her plans forward and decided to go at the end of March instead, so she could “Get her man and bring him home”
So, on the 28th March 2023 (after a couple of weeks staying with family) our couple both arrived in Melbourne, Australia. Catherine via plane, and Mike on his floating home / workplace, the “Grand Princess” This was the first time either of them had seen each other in the flesh for years, and the excitement was unbelievable.
Catherine joined the ship on a three day “mini-cruise” ending in Sydney, where Mike was also to leave the ship and fly home.
A stop off in Eden on the East Coast of Australia followed, and then a day in Sydney (where Catherine met one of Mike’s friends from Uni – a chap called Ric who sadly can’t be here today, but who composed the music which she walked down the aisle to!)
and dinner in the company of Catherine’s relatives Colin and Raven before heading to the airport and a long flight back to start our new life together.
The Melbourne Moment – the first glimpse of each other – didn't go according to plan. Catherine got off the tram and Mike who had, as usual, mistimed things spectacularly, was busy talking to one of his work colleagues!
The first kiss was amazing, though, and both of us knew then that this wasn’t going to be some fling – we both knew right then that we adored each other and all this has led to where you’re sitting today.
