Catherine didn’t need convincing about Portsmouth – she was born here, and the city has always been part of her story. Mike, on the other hand, had only visited once before moving in… but what better reason could there be to get to know a place than falling for someone who calls it home?
We’ve quickly found our own favourite corners of the city. Long walks along the Southsea seafront have become “our thing” – sometimes windswept, sometimes sunny, always with the hovercraft making a dramatic entrance (it’s almost like Portsmouth’s way of reminding us we live somewhere a little bit unique).
There’s something oddly romantic about pausing mid-walk to share a bag of chips, even if the local seagulls seem to think they’re invited too.
Life here has given us a mix of little rituals and big memories – evenings in Southsea, lazy Sundays on the Common, and quiet moments in Old Portsmouth where the cobbled streets make it feel like time has slowed down.
Portsmouth may not have the vintage buses of Amberley, but it has given us something far more important: a place to call our first home together, and the perfect backdrop to a love story that began with Catherine showing Mike around her city… and Mike realising very quickly that he’d never want to leave.
